Switching Odoo partners

Changing or switching Odoo partners, and what to hold before you do.

Changing the company that supports your Odoo is normal, and Odoo's own agreements allow for it. What makes it hard is when the partner holds the code, the server or the passwords. Here is what to collect first, in what order, and how a handover to Allodi runs.

What Odoo's own terms say

These quotes are from Odoo S.A.'s published agreements. They set the rules between Odoo, its partners and Enterprise customers; your own contract with a partner may add more. This is background, not legal advice.

Enterprise Subscription Agreement

"The Customer can decide at any time to work with a different Odoo Partner, or to work with Odoo SA directly (subject to prior notice)."

That is in section 2 (Definitions, "Odoo Partner"). In section 6.1 the same agreement asks the customer to "provide written notice to Odoo SA 30 days before changing their main point of contact to work with another Odoo Partner, or to work with Odoo SA directly." Version 13 of September 24, 2026, as read on September 30, 2026.

Odoo Partnership Agreement

"PARTNER is not allowed to block, restrict or limit in any way the customer's access and use of the Odoo Enterprise Edition License, without prior consultation and written authorisation from ODOO."

If you work with Odoo S.A. directly, the Enterprise agreement provides services for covered custom modules only on Odoo's own cloud (section 4.6). On your own server, whoever you choose maintains that code.

What a good handover gives you

What a partner owes you is set by your contract. Whatever it says, these are the things you need in your own hands to be free to choose, and asking plainly, early, is the easiest way to get them.

  • A full backup: database and filestore together, restorable, with the Odoo version it came from.
  • The code: a git repository with full history, or at least every custom module, and the list of third-party and OCA modules with where each came from.
  • Admin access: an administrator login to Odoo, and the server and database credentials if the partner hosts it.
  • The integrations: mail servers, payment providers, carriers, bank feeds and sign-in apps, who owns each account, and where each secret lives.
  • Your domain and DNS: control of the registrar and the records for your Odoo address and your mail.
  • Scheduled actions: what runs, when, and why.
  • The documentation: what each customization does and who asked for it, if it exists.
  • Your subscription details: if you are on Enterprise, the subscription code and who Odoo S.A. has as your contact.

The full list, with the order to ask in, is in our partner handover checklist.

The order that keeps it friendly

  1. Collect quietly

Ask for a full backup with filestore for your own records, and for read access to the code. Confirm you control the domain and DNS, and check who owns each third-party account.

  2. Read the contract

Notice periods, data-return terms and any handover fee.

  3. Tell the partner, and Odoo if you are on Enterprise

With the essentials in hand, the conversation is a conversation, not a negotiation. On Enterprise, give Odoo S.A. written notice 30 days before you change your main contact.

  4. Move, or simply change who supports it

If the partner hosts your Odoo, it moves to a server in your name through rescue and rehost. If it already runs on your own server or on Odoo.sh, Managed Odoo or a move off Odoo.sh picks it up from there.

A rescue is $750 per database, billed in three $250 milestones, plus $125 for each additional company in it, and Managed Odoo starts at cutover. The first conversation and the scan are free.

Questions people ask

Is Allodi an Odoo partner?

No. Allodi is independent, is not part of Odoo's partner program and does not sell Odoo subscriptions. If you keep Enterprise, your subscription is with Odoo S.A. directly, or with a partner you choose, and we work on your system alongside it.

Can we change partners in the middle of a subscription?

Odoo's Enterprise agreement says the customer can decide at any time to work with a different partner or with Odoo S.A. directly, and asks for written notice to Odoo S.A. 30 days before the change. Your contract with the partner may add its own notice period, so read that too.

Will our partner know we are looking?

Only when you tell them. The steps in the checklist are ordinary requests, such as a backup for your own records, and you can make them before any conversation about leaving.

Who owns the custom code the partner wrote?

That depends on your contract with the partner, not on Odoo. Your records are in the database, which the database administrator can usually download on Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. If the contract is unclear, ask a lawyer before you ask the partner.

What if our Odoo is on the partner's own server?

Then the backup and the code come from the partner, and the order of requests matters more. The handover checklist covers that case.

What does switching to Allodi cost?

If the partner hosts your Odoo, moving it to a server in your name is $750 per database, billed in three $250 milestones, plus $125 for each additional company. Managed Odoo is $75 a month for one company plus $15 per internal user from cutover. The first conversation and the scan are free.

What if the project stalled before go-live?

Then securing the backup, the code and your admin access comes first, and a copy on a server in your name shows what you actually have. Our Odoo rescue page covers that case.

Thinking about changing partners?

The free scan shows what is installed and customized, and you can run it today. If you would rather talk first, tell us where your Odoo runs and what the partner holds today. We usually reply within one business day with the questions to ask first.

  • Plans, add-ons and hourly rates are published; larger projects are quoted up front, and the project fees in the free scan's quote are binding for what the scan counts.
  • On a move, the start milestone is refunded if your database cannot run on the new server, unless the cause is on your side or a third party refuses to release your data (conditions).
  • Managed Odoo is month to month: thirty days' notice, no minimum term.
  • Your server, code, backups and credentials are in your company's name.
