Odoo.sh vs self-hosted

Odoo.sh or a server you own: what each costs, worked out.

The honest comparison has three parts: the hosting, the Enterprise license, and who does the work. Below are the published prices, read on September 28, 2026, the arithmetic for three example companies, and the assumptions behind every number, so you can redo it with your own.

Allodi Managed Odoo$75 a month for the first company, $37.50 for each additional company, $12.50 for each branch, $15 for each internal userour pricing

The first-12-months prices on odoo.com apply, in Odoo's words, "for initial users ordered". The examples below use the list prices of the Custom plan, $61.00 per user a month billed yearly and $76.20 billed monthly, because list price is what you pay from the second year. On odoo.com, self-hosting ("On-premise") is listed under yearly billing only, which is why the own-server rows below use the yearly price. For an existing subscription, the agreement limits the rise at renewal: charges below the current list price increase by up to 7% per year of the previous term (section 5.2).

From Odoo 20, and only under Odoo's current Enterprise Subscription Agreement (version 13, dated September 24, 2026), Odoo counts Light Users separately from full users: any user designated a Light User, or any active employee record not linked to an active non-portal user account, so employee records then count too, at the lower price. Light Users are limited to their own time off, expenses, appraisals, attendances, referrals and planning, Field Service, barcode operations and read-only Knowledge; as employees they can get payslips and use the Point of Sale and the Manufacturing shop floor. On odoo.com on September 30, 2026 they are listed at $8.90 a month, by quote from an Odoo advisor. On Odoo 19 and earlier, every active user is a full user. The examples below count every user as a full user.

The license is the same on both sides

This is the part most comparisons leave out. The Odoo.sh pricing page states that "the hosting price does not include the enterprise licence", and on odoo.com Odoo.sh is offered only with the Custom plan. Enterprise on your own server needs the same Custom plan. So if you keep Enterprise, the license line is identical whether you stay on Odoo.sh or move, and the comparison comes down to hosting and support.

The license only goes away if you move to Odoo Community, which is open source under the LGPL and needs no subscription. That is a bigger decision with real trade-offs, covered on our Enterprise to Community page and in our app-by-app replacement table for Odoo 19.

What Enterprise includes that has a cost value

Odoo's upgrade documentation says that with Enterprise, "upgrading a database to the most recent version of Odoo is free", including support for discrepancies in the upgraded database. Your custom modules are still yours to port. On Community, the data migration uses the OCA's OpenUpgrade scripts and the work is priced separately; our upgrade prices are published.

Three example companies

The assumptions are ours and are stated so you can swap in your own. Odoo's deployment guide suggests one worker for about six concurrent users, meaning people using Odoo at the same moment. We assumed one worker for every 10 users with a login, rounded up, which is the guide's rule when about six in ten of them are in Odoo at once; if more of your people work in Odoo all day, add workers. Storage and staging are our estimates for each size.

Assumptions for the three examples
CompanyOdoo.sh setup assumedOdoo.sh, billed monthlyOdoo.sh, billed yearly
A: 5 users, 1 company1 worker, 5 GB, 1 staging environment$72 + $1.25 + $18 = $91.25$73.00
B: 15 users, 1 company2 workers, 20 GB, 1 staging environment$144 + $5 + $18 = $167.00$133.60
C: 40 users, 2 companies4 workers, 60 GB, 2 staging environments$288 + $15 + $36 = $339.00$271.20

For your own server, A and B are shown at $40 to $75 a month: $40 is the smaller Hetzner size we recommend (4 GB of memory), and $75 is the next size up (8 GB), which you need for a staging copy on the same server, so it is the like-for-like figure against the Odoo.sh staging environment. C, with 40 users, is shown on the 8 GB size at $75; heavy use can need a larger server. Backups are 30 nightly copies of the database and filestore in Backblaze B2, each counted at the size of the Odoo.sh storage figure. Database dumps are compressed, so that is on the high side; the transaction-log archive for point-in-time recovery comes on top and depends on how busy the database is.

Monthly totals, by setup

Each Odoo.sh row keeps hosting and license on the same billing basis, and includes Odoo.sh storage. Each own-server row includes the Hetzner server and the Backblaze B2 backups from the table above, with the Enterprise license at the yearly list price. Backblaze's first 10 GB are free. All prices exclude sales tax.

Odoo.sh with Enterprise, both billed monthly$472.25$1,310$3,387
Odoo.sh with Enterprise, both billed yearly$378$1,048.60$2,711.20
Your server with Enterprise (billed yearly) and Allodi Managed$495.97 to $530.97$1,259.10 to $1,294.10$3,239.94
Your server with Community and Allodi Managed$190.97 to $225.97$344.10 to $379.10$799.94
Your server with Community, run by your own staff$40.97 to $75.97$44.10 to $79.10$87.44

How to read the totals

What the difference buys. If you keep Enterprise, Odoo.sh hosting alone is the cheaper line on paper: at 5 users, $73 a month against $190.97 to $225.97 for your own server with Allodi Managed. The difference pays for a person who runs the server and does your small fixes, with 3.25 hours of fix time included each month at that size, point-in-time recovery of the database, a test restore every month, and ownership: the server, the repository, the backups and every password in your company's name.

Count the support time and the order flips. Odoo sells its own consulting time in success packs: $580 for 4 hours and $3,600 for 25, about $145 an hour. Buying the 3.25 hours that Managed includes at 5 users that way is about $471 a month, so Odoo.sh hosting plus those hours comes to about $544 a month against $190.97 to $225.97 with Allodi. At 15 users it is about $967 against $344.10 to $379.10, and the gap grows with the user count. If you would never buy that time, Odoo.sh hosting alone stays the cheaper line.

If you move to Community, the arithmetic changes. The per-user license is the largest line in all three examples, and without it, your own server with our support comes out below Odoo.sh with Enterprise in all three examples. The question then is whether the Enterprise apps you use have good replacements, which only a look at your own system answers.

If you have someone who runs Linux servers, a self-hosted Community system costs little more than the server. That is a perfectly good setup; the work is backups, restore tests, security updates, mail and upgrades, and it has to be done every month.

One-time costs sit outside these tables. Moving off Odoo.sh is our rescue and rehost: $750 per database, plus $125 for each additional company in it. Replacing Enterprise apps is $250 per app from the published upgrade and de-Enterprise prices. Neither is needed if Odoo.sh suits you.

Questions people ask

Is Odoo.sh cheaper than hosting Odoo yourself?

On hosting alone, often yes for a small database: one worker, 5 GB and one staging environment come to $91.25 a month on monthly billing. Counting support time changes the picture: Odoo's own success packs work out to about $145 an hour, and Allodi Managed includes 2 hours per company plus 15 minutes per internal user every month. Your own server also saves money when you move to Odoo Community, which has no per-user license, or when someone on your staff runs the server.

Does self-hosting remove the Enterprise license cost?

No. Enterprise on your own server uses the same Custom plan as Enterprise on Odoo.sh. Only Odoo Community, which is open source under the LGPL, has no license fee. See Enterprise to Community for what that switch involves.

How many Odoo.sh workers do we need?

Odoo's deployment guide gives a rule of thumb of one worker for about six concurrent users, meaning people using Odoo at the same moment, not everyone with a login. The Monitor tab of your Odoo.sh project shows your real load, which is a better guide than any rule.

What does the Allodi fee add on top of the server?

Server operations and patching, monitoring, nightly backups to your own Backblaze bucket with a monthly restore test, and small-fix hours: 2 per company plus 15 minutes per internal user each month. Work beyond them is $150 an hour, in 15-minute steps. We warn you in the ticket before going over your included hours, and going more than 2 hours over needs your approval.

Are these prices current?

They were read from odoo.com and odoo.sh on September 28, 2026, in US dollars. Odoo has repriced its plans before, so check the live pages before you decide. The method on this page stays the same when the numbers move.

What does moving from Odoo.sh to our own server cost?

Our rescue and rehost service is $750 per database, billed as $250 at signing, at cutover and at handover, plus $125 for each additional company in it. The free scan gives you a quote first, and its project fees are binding for what the scan counts.

Can we keep Enterprise after leaving Odoo.sh?

Yes. Leaving Odoo.sh and leaving Enterprise are separate decisions. If you keep Enterprise, the subscription stays with Odoo S.A. on the Custom plan, and we set it up on the new server.

What about Odoo Online?

Odoo Online is a different comparison, because its Standard plan includes hosting and is sold for Odoo Online only. Our migration page explains what changes when you leave Online, including the version you can leave on.

Run the numbers on your own system

The free scan counts your users, companies, modules and Enterprise apps, and the report prices both ways: keeping Enterprise, and replacing the apps. It changes nothing in your database.

  • Plans, add-ons and hourly rates are published; larger projects are quoted up front, and the project fees in the free scan's quote are binding for what the scan counts.
  • On a move, the start milestone is refunded if your database cannot run on the new server, unless the cause is on your side or a third party refuses to release your data (conditions).
  • Managed Odoo is month to month: thirty days' notice, no minimum term.
  • Your server, code, backups and credentials are in your company's name.
