Enterprise to Community

Odoo Enterprise to Community migration, run as a project.

Moving from Odoo Enterprise to Community can cut a large recurring bill, and it is a real trade. We list what you use, replace it on a copy, show you the result on your own data, and only then touch production.

The licensing facts

Odoo Community is open source under the LGPL version 3. Odoo Enterprise adds apps on top of it under the Odoo Enterprise Edition License, which allows use only with a valid Enterprise subscription for the right number of users.

Odoo's Enterprise Subscription Agreement says that when the agreement ends, "this license is revoked immediately and the Customer agrees to stop using the Odoo Enterprise Edition software". Your data stays yours; the Enterprise apps do not. So the switch has to be finished before the subscription ends.

Two facts make the question more pressing for many companies:

  • Running Enterprise on your own server or on Odoo.sh needs the Custom plan. On odoo.com in September 2026, its per-user list price is about twice that of the Standard plan, which is sold for Odoo Online only.
  • Version 13 of the agreement, dated September 24, 2026, treats Python-based customizations used on Odoo Online, including those made with Studio, as covered extra modules billed monthly per 100 lines of code.
  • From Odoo 20, and only under Odoo's current Enterprise Subscription Agreement (version 13, dated September 24, 2026), Odoo counts Light Users separately from full users: any user designated a Light User, or any active employee record not linked to an active non-portal user account, so employee records then count too, at the lower price. Light Users are limited to their own time off, expenses, appraisals, attendances, referrals and planning, Field Service, barcode operations and read-only Knowledge; as employees they can get payslips and use the Point of Sale and the Manufacturing shop floor. On odoo.com on September 30, 2026 they are listed at $8.90 a month, by quote from an Odoo advisor. On Odoo 19 and earlier, every active user is a full user. For an existing subscription, the agreement limits the rise at renewal: charges below the current list price increase by up to 7% per year of the previous term (section 5.2).

What has a replacement, and what does not

Replacements come mostly from the Odoo Community Association (OCA), whose modules are open source and reviewed in public. Our app-by-app Enterprise vs Community table for Odoo 19 names each module and its repository, last checked on September 28, 2026.

Usually covered on 19.0

  • Bank reconciliation, financial reports, assets, budgets and payment follow-ups
  • Documents, e-signature and a knowledge base
  • Helpdesk, field service and approvals
  • Subscriptions (recurring contracts), quality control and multi-level MRP
  • Payroll, with your country's rules to build
  • A responsive web client for phones

Real gaps today

  • Studio. What you keep is rebuilt as a small module in your repository
  • Marketing automation and social marketing
  • PLM and engineering changes, and the shop floor tablet
  • The warehouse barcode app and rental, whose OCA versions are not on 19.0 yet
  • The IoT box
  • Odoo's online bank synchronization, an Enterprise service. Community imports statement files such as CAMT or spreadsheets instead

If one of the gaps is central to how you work, staying on Enterprise is a perfectly good answer: the scan report prices both ways, and we will tell you which we would choose.

How we run it

  1. List every Enterprise module free scan

Which Enterprise apps and modules are installed, and what replacing each app costs. Which ones are actually used, and how much data each holds, we check with you in the project.

  2. Decide app by app, with you

Replace with an OCA or Community module, move the data somewhere else, or let it go. Each decision is written down with the reason.

  3. Rehearse on a neutralized copy

Install the replacements first and move data into them by script while the Enterprise apps are still there to read from. Then uninstall the Enterprise apps one at a time, the Enterprise web client last, and check the server log is clean.

  4. Your team tests

Accounting above all: reconcile a statement, run the reports your accountant relies on, close a test period.

  5. Run it again from a fresh copy

The production run is a repeat of a script that has already worked, on an evening you choose.

What it costs

  • $250 per Enterprise app replaced, from the published upgrade and de-Enterprise prices
  • If you upgrade at the same time, the version and module prices apply as well

Before you pay anything

  • The scan is free and changes nothing
  • The project fees in its quote are binding for what the scan counts

After

  • Two weeks of fixes included
  • Managed Odoo if you want us to keep it running

Use us for the upgrade, then be gone

Want to land on Odoo 19 Community with no Enterprise license to renew, and then run it yourselves? It is a one-off project and does not need a Managed Odoo subscription, before or after. The price is fixed from the published tables, by custom modules to port, none: $0, 1 to 5: $750, 6 to 15: $2,000, 16 to 40: $4,500, over 40: $4,500 plus $100 per module over 40; plus $500 per major version jumped and $250 per Enterprise app replaced, billed 30% at start, 40% at staging sign-off and 30% at completion.

What you walk away with: your Community system on your server (when we set it up on your company's Hetzner account, with backups in your own Backblaze bucket and the backup job still running); every ported or replacement module we write in your repository with full source, licensed to you under LGPL-3; and the handover package (the credentials we created, a backup test report, the runbook, the integrations sheet and who has access to what). Defects you report within 14 days of acceptance are fixed at no charge, and then we remove our access and confirm it in writing, unless you ask us to keep it. You decide when to end the Enterprise subscription; we suggest keeping it until those 14 days are over. How an upgrade-only project ends.

Questions people ask

Is there an official way to switch from Enterprise to Community?

Odoo documents the opposite direction, Community to Enterprise, but not this one. That is why we treat it as a scripted project, rehearsed on copies, rather than a setting.

Will we lose data?

Uninstalling an Odoo app deletes its records, so the order matters. Data you want to keep is moved into the replacement first, or exported, before anything is uninstalled. You see the result on a copy before production is touched.

Can we do this together with an upgrade to Odoo 19?

Yes, if both are rehearsed together, but every rehearsal then has two sources of surprise. Often it is simpler to change the edition on the version you run, then upgrade. We recommend one or the other after the free scan.

What about Odoo 20?

The main OCA repositories opened their 20.0 branches on September 28, 2026, and had no modules on them yet, so a Community system that relies on OCA replacements lands on Odoo 19 for now. The OCA's OpenUpgrade 20.0 branch held no migration scripts on September 30, 2026, and Odoo's own upgrade service did not yet offer 20.0 either. Moving to 20 later is a normal upgrade.

Can we go back to Enterprise later?

Yes. Odoo documents how to switch a Community database to Enterprise, and you would buy a subscription from Odoo S.A. again.

What does it save?

Your Enterprise subscription, and on Odoo Online the new per-line charge for Python-based customizations. What it costs is the apps without a good replacement and the upgrade service Odoo includes with Enterprise. The free scan prices both ways for your own system: keeping Enterprise, and replacing the apps.

What do we lose going from Enterprise to Community?

The apps in the right-hand list above, anything built in Studio that you do not rebuild as code, and the upgrade service that comes with an Enterprise subscription. Our Enterprise vs Community table goes app by app.

Is Community cheaper to host?

Hosting costs the same for either edition; what Community removes is the per-user license. Our Odoo.sh vs self-hosted cost comparison works it through for three company sizes with published prices.

Find out what Community would mean for you

The module list quote finds your Enterprise apps in your browser and prices replacing them from the published tables. Send it to us from the same page, or start the free scan today.

  • Plans, add-ons and hourly rates are published; larger projects are quoted up front, and the project fees in the free scan's quote are binding for what the scan counts.
  • An upgrade needs no subscription: at acceptance you get the handover, defects you report within 14 days are fixed at no charge, and then we remove our access (how it ends).
  • Managed Odoo is month to month: thirty days' notice, no minimum term.
  • Your server, code, backups and credentials are in your company's name.
