Odoo 17 end of support: what changed, and your options

Odoo 20 came out in September 2026, and Odoo 17 left standard support the same month. Your system keeps running. What changes is who fixes it, what that costs, and how long you have to plan the upgrade.

The short answer

Odoo 17.0 reached the end of standard support in September 2026. On Odoo Online it is no longer supported. On Odoo.sh and on your own server it moved to extended support, which Odoo S.A. sells for an additional fee, and Odoo says security updates are only provided during standard support. A system on 17 keeps working; plan an upgrade to Odoo 19 rather than waiting for something to force it.

What Odoo's support policy says

Odoo publishes its policy on a documentation page called Standard and extended support. The rule is short: "Standard support covers the first three years after release. It is available on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh, and on-premise." After that, "Extended support begins when standard support ends and requires an additional fee," and it is offered "only on Odoo.sh (for a limited number of versions) and on-premise (for any version)."

Two sentences on the same page matter most when you decide what to do next: "Security updates are only provided during standard support," and "Both phases include helpdesk support and bug fixes. During extended support, fixes are provided only where technically feasible."

The page also says it does not change the Odoo Enterprise Subscription Agreement, which defines the versions it covers as "the 3 most recently released major versions of the Software", with a new major version once a year. With 20.0 out, those are 18, 19 and 20.

Where each version stands

This is the table on Odoo's page as we read it on November 6, 2026. "Extended" means paid extended support; dates marked planned are Odoo's own.

What it means for you, by where your Odoo runs

Odoo Enterprise on your own server or on Odoo.sh

The Enterprise Subscription Agreement covers the three most recent major versions, which are now 18, 19 and 20. On 17, helpdesk support and bug fixes come only with extended support, which Odoo charges extra for, and fixes are made "only where technically feasible". Security updates are no longer provided for 17. Odoo's upgrade documentation says that "With Odoo Enterprise, upgrading a database to the most recent version of Odoo is free," so the upgrade itself is part of what you already pay for; the work on your custom modules is not.

Odoo Community

Odoo S.A. does not sell support for Community, so nothing changes in your contract, because there is none. What changes is the code you run: Odoo's support policy says security updates are only provided during standard support, and it describes no separate track for Community. Odoo's upgrade documentation also notes that on-premise "You can stay on the same version indefinitely, even if it is not recommended." That is true, and it gets more expensive every year you wait, because the gap to a current version grows one release at a time.

Odoo Online

Odoo's table marks 17.0 as not supported on Odoo Online. If your Online database is still on 17, ask Odoo when it will be upgraded, and test your own processes on a copy first. If you are thinking of leaving Online instead, read about the intermediate-version trap before you plan the move.

Which version to move to

Odoo says "You can upgrade from any version to any major version still under standard support, or that reached the end of standard support less than six months ago." In practice there are three targets:

  • Odoo 18 leaves standard support in September 2027 (planned). Moving to 18 now buys less than a year before you are back where you are today.
  • Odoo 19 has standard support until September 2028 (planned), has had a year of fixes, and is the version we recommend for production today. For Community, the OCA's OpenUpgrade project has working 18.0 to 19.0 migration scripts for the main apps (where its coverage stands).
  • Odoo 20 runs until September 2029 (planned), but it is two months old. Like every new major version it will need a few months of fixes before we recommend it for day-to-day business. For Community there is no upgrade path yet: on November 6, 2026 the OpenUpgrade 20.0 branch held no migration scripts.

How the upgrade from 17 runs

On Enterprise on Odoo.sh or your own server, Odoo's upgrade service converts the database to a target version you choose, among those it still accepts; on Odoo Online, upgrades follow Odoo's own timetable. On Community, OpenUpgrade migrates one version at a time, so a 17.0 database goes to 18.0 and then to 19.0 in two runs. Either way, three things decide how long it takes and what it costs:

  • Custom and third-party modules. Each one has to be ported to the target version before the database can move. Our article on what breaks in custom modules from 16 to 19 lists the changes that catch most code.
  • Enterprise apps, if you are leaving Enterprise. Each one needs a Community or OCA replacement or a decision to drop it. Our Enterprise vs Community table for 19 goes app by app.
  • Rehearsals. Run the upgrade on a copy, check your own numbers, fix what differs, and run it again until a run is uneventful. Then do production.

Start by finding out what you have. A read-only count of your modules, Enterprise apps and customizations tells you more about the size of the job than any estimate made without it. Our free scan does that count and returns a quote from our published upgrade prices.

Questions people ask

When did Odoo 17 support end?

Odoo's support page lists the end of standard support for 17.0 as September 2026, the month Odoo 20 was released. 17.0 is now not supported on Odoo Online and is on paid extended support on Odoo.sh and on-premise.

Can we keep running Odoo 17?

Yes. Your system does not stop working, and Odoo's upgrade documentation says an on-premise database can stay on the same version indefinitely. The cost is that security updates are only provided during standard support, and each year you wait adds another version to the upgrade.

Should we upgrade to Odoo 18, 19 or 20?

For most systems, 19. Odoo 18 leaves standard support in September 2027, and Odoo 20 was released in September 2026 and, like every new major version, needs a few months of fixes. On Community, OpenUpgrade has no 20.0 migration scripts yet.

Can we go from 17 straight to 19?

On Enterprise on Odoo.sh or your own server, Odoo's upgrade service lets you pick the target version among those it still accepts. With OpenUpgrade for Community, the database goes 17 to 18 and then 18 to 19, because each branch migrates from the version before it. Custom modules can be ported straight to 19.

Does end of support affect Odoo Community?

Odoo S.A. does not sell support for Community, so no contract changes. What changes is that Odoo's support policy says security updates are only provided during standard support, which 17 has left, and it describes no separate track for Community.
